Nigel moved to Skelmersdale in 1970 and have lived in the area ever since. Over the years I’ve called Castlehey, Cornbrook, Parsonage Close, and—since 1999—Crossfield Road home. He was educated at West Bank School before attending Wigan College, where I studied for the Institute of Industrial Management. His early working life included roles with Zorba Europa and Erlson Engineering. I later became self-employed as a window cleaner, a role I’ve proudly continued in Skelmersdale and the surrounding areas to this day.
Over 40 years ago, Nigel founded the Skelmersdale Taekwondo Club. He currently holds one of the highest ranks in the world, 8th Dan, and have had the privilege of teaching generations of local people—children, parents, and grandparents alike. From 2004 to 2024, he owned and ran Dee’s Deli in Ashurst, serving breakfasts and building friendships within the community, he is now the leaseholder (UKTDC) of the Ashurst Community Centre.
It’s fair to say that over the years he has probably cleaned your windows, made your breakfast, or taught you—or someone in your family—Taekwondo.

‘Skelmersdale has been very good to me and my family, and I now feel it’s time to give something back.’
